World Laughter Day is an annual event celebrated worldwide to raise awareness about laughter and its many healing benefits.

Everybody knows that laughter feels good, but few realize how valuable laughter is in improving our daily wellness and wellbeing.

The 1 minute laugh My colleague had been living in the country for only a few months, and although normally very chipper, he recently looked a bit 'down in the mouth.'

When I asked him what was wrong, he replied,"Today, everything wrong is going in my favor."

Kids are funny Billy was excited about his first day at school. So excited in fact, that only a few minutes after class started, he realized that he desperately needed to go to the washroom.

So Billy raised his hand to ask if he could be excused to go to the washroom. The teacher said yes, but asked Billy to be quick.

Five minutes later Billy returned looking desperate and embarrassed. "I can't find it," he said.

The teacher sat Billy down and drew him a little map to where he should go asked asked Tommy to help Billy find the washroom.

So Tommy and Billy go together and five minutes later they both return and sit down in their seats.

The teacher asked Billy, "Well, did you find it?' Tommy is quick to reply and says, "Oh sure, Billy just had his boxer shorts on backwards."

Are we having fun yet?

For many - work is not a 'fun' experience. It's tolerable. It might be exciting at times. It pays the bills, or some at least, but for many work is not fun.

Well, it is up to individual employees how much fun we build into our jobs.

On a recent trip, I flew on Southwest Airlines and found that the crew had turned the usually boring safety announcement into a 'stand-up' comedy routine.

Here is the cabin crew member started her safety announcement when everyone is seated.

"There are 50 ways to leave your lover, but only 6 ways to leave this aircraft."

And she continues, "Okay folks - it's open seating just like in church - Saints up front and Sinners in the back."

"In the event of cabin depressurization - please secure your oxygen mask and decide which child you like best."

"Everyone on the plane's left side put their faces in the window and smile, so that our competitors can see what a full flight looks like?"

So here is an example how a dull and boring routine can be changed into a funny and enjoyable experience while still accomplishing the goal of the safety message.

No matter what your race, your gender, or your financial situation - Life is good when laughter is frequent!

If you can't laugh - smile! If you can't smile - fake it until you make it!

If you loose your zest for laughter - you loose your zest for life!

• We need to socialize more!
• We need to generate more humor and laughter in our lives!
• We have to enjoy life instead of enduring it!
